Interview with Stephanie Podejko - Stone Hill Dalmatians

Thank you Stephanie for sharing your thoughts and wisdom with us! This interview was done October of 2004.

How did you get your start in Dalmatians?

I got my start in Dalmatians about 18 years ago when I purchased my first Girl "Esha" to ride along with my Horses!!

What got you started in dog shows?

Watching a friend of mine work with her dog in Obedience, it fascinated me! The rest is History!!

Can you tell the story behind your kennel name?

We moved out here to the country in 1979, all over the pastures (we live on an old farm) were hills of stone that over the years were placed there by hand by the previous land owners. Hence the name Stone Hill.

Which of your dogs was your favorite and why?

I don't think I will ever be able to write down who was a favorite, they all have touched my life in a special way! I will say that TJ holds a special place in my heart....

Was your favorite dog bred by you or someone else?

Most of my Dogs have been bred by me!

When planning a breeding what are the most important things you take into consideration?

Health and temperament, I do NOT breed very often, when I do I know that I am breeding to keep a new spot and the rest will be going to pet homes and wonderful families.

Which of your breedings do you consider your most successful and why?

I am hoping that were all successful as I still get letters and cards from homes where my puppies were placed!

What do you contribute your success to the most?

Reading, Listening, and taking advice from the people who have been there and done that.

What significant changes have you seen in Dals?

Temperaments.

Do you have any comments on those changes?

We must be careful what we wish for.

Did you have a mentor and how do you think they influenced you?

I have a few mentors, I must say Richard Milliare helped me in a big way.

You have (with this interview) the audience of most of the Dal community. What one thing would you like to most express to them?

Stay true to yourself, don't follow the fads and flavors of the month. Do your homework and believe in your self!.

Anything else you'd like to add?

Love your dogs, be good to one another, this life is to short so enjoy it while you are here!
